8 Years of Impactful Governance — The Fuad Atanda-Lawal Story

When Hon. Fuad Atanda-Lawal assumed office as the Executive Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in 2017, many expected continuity. What Lagos witnessed instead was a grassroots transformation that would later be referenced as a model for purposeful local governance.

From Vision to Tangible Impact

Over the course of two terms, Atanda-Lawal demonstrated that good governance is not a function of size or budget, but of vision, accountability, and empathy. His administration embarked on numerous projects that changed the face of Ikoyi and Obalende — including the remodeling of the council secretariat, reconstruction of major access roads, modern drainage networks, and community health interventions that touched lives across the wards.

His commitment to education saw the rehabilitation of primary schools, provision of learning materials, and sustained investment in teachers’ welfare. In healthcare, he ensured functional primary health centers and maternal care support programs that reduced preventable ailments in the community.

Empowering People, Building Systems

Beyond physical infrastructure, Fuad Atanda-Lawal prioritized people development and institutional efficiency. He digitized council operations for better service delivery, strengthened internal revenue processes, and promoted transparency in governance.

Through empowerment schemes and youth programs, his administration provided opportunities for hundreds of residents to access skills training, startup support, and economic inclusion.

A Model of Modern Grassroots Leadership

Under his leadership, Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA became a benchmark of performance among Lagos councils, frequently cited for fiscal responsibility, administrative innovation, and community engagement.

Atanda-Lawal’s inclusive approach earned him respect across political divides — blending discipline with accessibility, and structure with empathy.

A Legacy Beyond Office

As he bows out after eight impactful years, his achievements reflect a deep understanding of governance as a service, not a privilege. His legacy is not just in the roads built or buildings remodeled, but in the confidence he restored in what local government can achieve when led with purpose.
